Subject: Non-Delivery Reports for email that has failed a Sender Policy Framework test
This is only tangentially security related, but I'm having a hard time finding a contact address or page that's a better match for this subject. If you can help me with this issue, or at least direct me to the correct contact, I would appreciate it very much.
Can you tell me the reason that Google returns a non-delivery notice for an email that failed a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) check? The whole point of SFP is to allow me (the admin of a domain) to tell you (the admin of a mailserver) that any mail with a return address in my domain that did not come from a server that is on my list of authorized servers is spam and should be discarded.
Google is effectively spamming me by sending NDRs for email that my SPF has already told you is spam! This makes it difficult to find valid, important NDRs for non-spam email that legitimately failed delivery.
If I'm missing some important reason for sending NDRs for email that has failed SPF, then please fill me in. Otherwise, please do not send NDRs for email that has failed an SPF test.
